I was recently asked to head to Walmart for supplies for an Avengers themed pizza party and to check out the new Avengers Augmented Reality App exclusively for Walmart.
The Avengers Augmented Reality app is super cool. Like, I am pretty sure after hearing about it, my husband is going to be heading to Walmart to wander around and check out all the ways to unlock material.
Basically, you aim your phone at different triggers (the Avengers display, posters, products), and it will show you a different- altered- image. So you see a plain display in front of you, but on your phone, the Avengers are popping up at you! Or the DVD cover you see? It plays a fun little movie!
All you need to do is download the Augmented Reality App here (be sure to download all content at home while you have wifi), head to walmart, and point your app screen at Avengers displays and posters around Walmart to unlock new material!
Heres how the display looked in store (above), and how it looked through the alternate reality app (below).
Truth be told, I wish there was a lot more. Every time I saw an Avengers branded item (popsicles, stickers, costumes) I wanted new stuff! It was pretty hard to find trigger points in my Walmart, outside of from products or the actual Avengers display.
I’m hoping they expand this app for future Marvel movies!
Here’s a short video of what we just unlocked tonight when we brought home the Avengers blueray:

Next, I decided to break out some cake pops, some foil Avengers stickers I grabbed at Walmart, and stuck them on the cake pops. I picked our favorite characters and some fun comic phrases.
I baked a cake according to the box’s directions, and used a cake pop lid circle as a mold. I simply cut a circle out of the cake. Don’t worry if it isnt perfect- hey even if it crumbles- because you end up just chucking it in the cake pop, in between layers of colored icing.
For icing, I just bought some store bought icing and mixed it with food coloring to make red, yellow, green and blue.
I topped the cake pops with M&M’s in each characters color combo- red white and blue for Captain America, green for hulk, red and yellow for Ironman, and blue for Thor.
I then took two cake pop caddies I had and dumped a bunch of extra M&M’s in them for these fun candy pops, accented with fun comic words like whamm! and BAM!
For decor, I hung a Captain America shield from the Halloween section (which my husband quickly claimed for himself) on some ribbon, and cut pennant shapes out of Avengers wallpaper and hung it below the shield as a bunting.
After we were done, we checked out the Avengers Graphic Novel, exclusive at Walmart.
The graphic novel comes in a special Blue Ray or DVD combo pack gift set. It’s an all new original novel featuring the first days of the Avengers all set in a comic book format. I’m not a great judge of quality comics, but he was pretty impressed.
